SCP-030-JP at time of discovery.

Item#: SCP-030-JP

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: All SCP-030-JP instances are to be contained in a specialized A-Class biohazardous containment cell at Specialized Containment Site-8161, where is constructed without any petroleum products. Except for 100 gram of polyester fiber for feeding to SCP-030-JP, no other petroleum products of any kind, including the petroleum itself, are permitted on Site-8161 at any time. The maximum number of SCP-030-JP instances permitted in containment is 10; excess instances are to be terminated. In the event of a containment breach, Site-8161 is to go into full lock-down and be filled with an organic phosphorus-based insecticide. If this procedure proves ineffective to prevent the containment breach of SCP-030-JP, the on-site specialized non-petroleum hydrogen bomb must be activated.

All uncontained instances of SCP-030-JP must be exterminated completely. Mobile Task Force 乙-ち ("Guardians of Foul Water") is assigned to the discovery and destruction of wild instances of SCP-030-JP.

Description: SCP-030-JP is a species of insect that feeds on the petroleum products and explosively multiples. An SCP-030-JP instance is approximately 20cm in length, featured by white fur that cover its entire body. It lacks wings, apparent antennas and spontaneous moving ability; the legs of SCP-030-JP too weak to even cling to the branch of tree. SCP-030-JP instances have a hemimetabolous life cycle and thus maintain the outward appearance of nymph. Molecular phylogenetic analysis has shown that the genetic code of SCP-030-JP is consistent with that of domesticated silk moth (Bombyx mori), despite its appearance is completely different from its supposed original species.

SCP-030-JP instances are hermaphrodites, and can reproduce both parthenogenetically and amphigonically. As SCP-030-JP instances have neotenic features, they become capable of reproducing in 3 days after its birth; an instance can lay about 300 eggs at a time. Sterile insect technique has proven ineffective due to the aforementioned parthenogenetic property. Moreover, no known predators of SCP-030-JP exist in nature; SCP-030-JP instances can't be digested and absorbed, and their unpleasant taste is avoided by most of creatures.

The biggest difference from other known insects is that SCP-030-JP instances live on petroleum. SCP-030-JP is capable of convert any petroleum-based products into into energy by an unknown organ that currently has been poorly understood. Fecal matter of SCP-030-JP is not inflammable and useless as fuel.

The average lifespan of SCP-030-JP is about 30 days. The dead bodies of SCP-030-JP are known for the significant slowness of spontaneous decomposition, and will generate dioxin-based toxic gas unless being properly incinerated at a temperature of 800°C or more in the same way as ordinary plastic products is treated. Considering their explosive fecundity and the difficulties regarding disposal of dead bodies/fecal matters, SCP-030-JP is estimated to be capable of occupying all land on Earth if they are left free with enough amount of petroleum and petroleum-based products within [REDACTED] days. Despite the active effort of the Foundation towards the extinction of SCP-030-JP, it is estimated that there are currently over █,███,███ instances in the wild.

After consumed a fixed amount of petroleum products, SCP-030-JP instance will produce the thread made of polyethylene terephthalate. This thread can be spun into standard clothes.

Over 10,000 instances of SCP-030-JP were discovered on 19██, when Mobile Task Force ゑ-3 ("Green Shields") raided an abandoned facility of of Japan Organisms Improvement and Creation Laboratory1. A labeled, empty wooden container was also found in the same place. The contents of the label read as follows - note that the underlined part is written by hand.

Polies Roly-Poly We need pick a better name by the presentation for this "Poly-Eater" (temporary)
If this project succeeds, our research will get a further jump!
