An instance of SCP-167-JP-1.

Two croquettes in the center are SCP-167-JP-1 instances after the transformation. Shredded cabbage, tomato and parsley are also other transformed creatures.

Item#: SCP-167-JP

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-167-JP is secured as private land of Site-81██. Stationed Mobile Task Force is to patrol the surrounding area to prevent the civilian vessels from entering the SCP-167-JP. Admittance from outside for carrying daily commodities must be approved by Security Clearance Level 3 or higher personnel. In case the creature that lives in Area-SCP-167-JP transforms into foodstuff outside of testing, personnel are to wait until it re-transforms into its original form.
(Since Addendum 1 Incident): In case SCP-167-JP-5 manifests, stationed MTF is to be dispatched to suppress the entity in question.

Description: SCP-167-JP is an area is inhabited by anomalous creatures. Area-SCP-167-JP is consisted of an uninhabited island situated ███km off the coast of ██ Prefecture (approximately 2 sq. km) and its surrounding sea area (a radius of approximately 100m).

Creatures in area display overtly anomalous properties. When the creatures receive a tactile stimulation of the certain level, these rapidly lose its motor ability, covering its body by an abnormal secretion to transform into some kind of generic foodstuffs. Currently, four different species have proven to be anomalous.

Creature Designation Anomalous Property
Red rock crab (Grapsus grapsus) SCP-167-JP-1 Turns into a crab-meat cream croquette as response to stimulus (See below)
Japanese pufferfish (Takifugu rubripes) SCP-167-JP-2 Turns into a cabbage as response to stimulus
Festive sea slug (Hypselodoris festiva) SCP-167-JP-3 Turns into a tomato as response to stimulus
Cladophora ball (Aegagropila linnaei) SCP-167-JP-4 Turns into a parsley as response to stimulus

These creatures are living in this area without any problems, despite the very different environment in comparison to their original habitats1. Also, these instantly die when leaving the boundaries of Area-SCP-167-JP. It is unknown why these creatures turn into foodstuff, how these inhabit unsuitable environment, why these die when leaving the area, and what the cause of anomaly is.

The following is an extract of from the description about the transformation of SCP-167-JP-1 (Crab). Please refer to the attached sheet for details about the transformation of SCP-167-JP-2, 3 and 4.

SCP-167-JP-1 displays its anomalous property when it receives the stimulus, such as being slapped hard. SCP-167-JP-1 folds up its chelophores ("claws") and ambulatory legs, covering its own body quickly by an abnormal secretion. Secretion dries in a few seconds and shows so-called "crisp fried" hardness, its color changing into light brown. In this condition, secretion is often compared to a batter-coating. Concurrently, SCP-167-JP-1’s body temperature rises to 60-70 ºC. Eventual form of SCP-167-JP-1 bears a strong resemblance to a foodstuff, commonly known as "croquette".

Croquette-shaped SCP-167-JP-1 has high heat-retaining property and water repellency, taking back its own dryness in few seconds and keeping its temperature even in the cold water. When attempting to eat SCP-167-JP-1, the predators often get burned and learn that those crabs are not suitable to prey. If Croquette-shaped SCP-167-JP-1 does not receive the stimulus for more than 1 minute, its secretion is peeled and SCP-167-JP-1 transforms into a crab again.

If Croquette-shaped SCP-167-JP-1 is exposed to a high temperature (approximately 90-███ ºC)2, its internal organs become creamy. Testing has shown its taste is identical to common crab-meat cream. Once changed into this creamy status, SCP-167-JP-1 never turn into a living crab again.

Test Log 1 - 20██/██/██

Subject: D-167-JP-1, -2, -3 and -4. Hereafter simplified as like "D-1".

Method: D-1, D-2, D-3 and D-4 were instructed to eat the "Menu" that is consist of transformed creatures of SCP-167-JP.

Result: All D-class personnel finished their own plate, and subsequent medical examination didn't reveal any problem. All of them gave positive evaluations to its taste, claiming "the greatest crab-meat cream croquette ever" and "cabbage, tomato and parsley are also quite delicious".

Analyze: Interestingly enough, crab's parasites and pufferfish's toxicity seem to be vanished. —Dr. ██

SCP-167-JP was discovered in 20██/01/29 by chance, when a Foundation vessel drifted ashore due to the stormy weather. After the confirmation of native creatures' anomalous property, SCP-167-JP was put under the Foundation control as a private land, and current Special Containment Procedures were implemented.

Addendum: 20██/11/02, an unusual activity was observed near the lighthouse; three portals, depicted as "gaps of space", manifested in the sky. Following this, an entity that resembles to a pair of human arms (hereafter SCP-165-JP-5) appeared from two of those portals. SCP-165-JP-5 proceeded to "grab" a large number of anomalous creatures in SCP-167-JP and push these into the third portal. During a course of this action, a member of MTF was nearly captured, and other MTF members fired on SCP-167-JP-5. SCP-167-JP-5 immediately retreated into the portals that were disappeared shortly after.

As of 20██, SCP-167-JP-5 has manifested 4 times. In consideration that SCP-167-JP-5 started attacking MTF and has continued overhunting the creatures, Special Containment Procedures were revised.
